Papers, 1870-1960.

Collection consists primarily of over 400 letters and cards to Júlio Dantas from other Portuguese writers, politicians, scientists, and artists. Correspondents include António Boto, Marcello Caetano, Antonio Ferro, Rocha Martins, Egas Moniz, Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro, António de Oliveira Salazar, and many others. There are also a few letters from Dantas to unidentified others. The papers also include some autograph compositions by Dantas and others, biographical miscellany, and printed materials, including clippings.

Júlio Dantas was a Portuguese doctor, poet, diplomat, and writer. Dantas was born in Lagos, Portugal in 1876. After completing his studies in medicine at the University of Lisbon, he served as a doctor in the Portuguese army. Dantas was also a member, and later, president, of the Academy of Sciences of Lisbon.
